Feed My People Program

Addressing food apartheid is not only a desire but a must in order to ensure that our residents receive regular and healthy meals.

Greater Hazelwood has become a community that continues to prioritize corporations over people and perpetuates economic and social inequity born from entrenched systemic racism. Our community has experienced rapid growth over the years but not all people have benefited. This kind of growth creates racial and economic inequities that negatively impact Greater Hazelwood’s black, brown, and low-income families.

Praise Temple Deliverance Church (PTDC) through our collaboration with POORLAW (People Of Origin Rightfully Loved And Wanted), HOPE 1212 (Having Only Positive Expectations 1212) and The Pittsburgh Foundation has decided that food justice is one of the primary problems facing residents in our community.

Expanding Outreach to Include 200 Households

With this program, we are hoping to see an increase of at least 25% of families now having access to fresh and healthy foods. We hope that we relieve the financial burden of families who have to buy household items.

The goal of this project is to expand our outreach to include 200 households, thereby increasing the total of meals provided to 5,000 meals. Meals will include accommodations for lunch, dinner, and snacks. We will also provide hot meals in an in-person setting once a month to the homeless and families who requested. In addition to the in-person setting, meals will also be delivered to families, and/or we will provide take-out services. The program will also provide household and personal items to residents in the community.

Meals will be provided in 2 different ways:

  • Hot meals will be prepared onsite during designated days
  • Food items will be purchased, boxed, and delivered to the designated households

November 1st, 2022 – October 1st, 2023

The project will take place from November 1st, 2022 – October 1st, 2023. Each family must complete an intake assessment form. Questions will include the number of people in the family, ages, and special needs. We will operate the program out of Praise Temple Deliverance Church (PTDC) located at 5400 Glenwood Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15207.

Registration

This program will be operated on a first come first serve basis. The first 200 families who register will become recipients of the program.
